Twitter has made it easier for anyone to request that their Twitter account is verified, and in this guide we’ll show you how.
Having a verified Twitter account (which gives you a blue tick next to your user name), gives you prestige on Twitter, as it shows that you are an account worth following.
To get your Twitter account verified, you need to fill out the Twitter Verification form.
If you work in the music industry, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas, then you have a good chance of getting your Twitter account verified.
You will also need to provide the following when requesting account verification:
- A verified phone number
- A confirmed email address
- A bio
- A profile photo
- A header photo
- A birthday (for accounts that are not company, brand, or organization accounts)
- A website
- Tweets set as public in Tweet privacy settings
Tips on how to get your Twitter account verified
After filling out the form you will have to wait for Twitter to make a decision to verify you. If you want a better chance of having your account verified, follow these tips:
- Use a username that reflects your real name, or the company you work for (if you are tweeting on its behalf).
- Your photo and/or the header photo should be of yourself or your brand.
- If your account is connected to a corporate or company account, the email address you use should be a company email address.
Twitter may ask you to provide further information about yourself and your account when considering verification. You may be asked to explain why Twitter should verify your account – so you could explain how your account reflects the field you work in.
You’ll be asked to provide a URL of a website that proves your newsworthiness or relevancy in your field. You may also be asked to provide a scan of a passport or other form of ID.
