Gareth Bale has completed his memorable summer by getting engaged to childhood sweetheart Emma Rhys-Jones. The 27-year-old announced the news on social media on Sunday as he enjoys a holiday before the start of the new La Liga season with Madrid. Posting a picture of him and his partner, Bale wrote: ‘She said yes!! This is a birthday weekend I won’t forget for a long time. Celebrated with all our closest family and friends.’
Bale and Rhys-Jones, who are both from Cardiff and met at Whitchurch High School in the Welsh capital, have two daughters together – Alba Violet and Nava Valentina.
The Welshman’s stellar career has only gone one way since he joined Madrid, his move to Spain alongside his young family catapulting him into one of the world’s best players.
Bale, who celebrated turning 27 on Saturday, proved just how good he is in France this summer, helping huge underdogs Wales into the last four of Euro 2016 with a series of superb individual performances.
While Bale is one of the biggest names in football, his soon-to-be wife shuns the limelight.
But the Real Madrid star makes regular gestures to the mother of his two children, often marking a goal for either club or country with his heart goal celebration, which he trademarked in 2013.
The couple’s first child, Alba Violet, was born in Cardiff in October 2012. They had another daughter, Nava Valentine, in March this year.
Tee-total, Bale is a man who prioritises his family life and is rarely seen out partying, preferring to indulge in his love of golf away from football.
Now, as he looks to continue the form that made him the world’s most expensive footballer and win more trophies with Madrid next season, Bale also has a wedding to plan for.
He really is a man at the top of his game at the moment.
