Did You Know Worlds Fastest Man – Usain Bolt has Never Run a Mile?

Usain Bolt is the fastest human being on Earth. He’s actually the fastest person in human history if you go by the 100-meter dash, in which Bolt holds the world record at 9.58 seconds. Did You Know Usain Bolt has Never run a mile?

The New Yorker recently explored how fast Bolt could run the mile if he really dedicated himself to it. That premise is more interesting than you might think — Bolt stands 6-foot-5 and weighs just over 200 pounds, while the best longer-distance runners tend to be much shorter and skinnier. Basically, sprinters need lots of muscle to propel short bursts of speed while runners who compete in longer distance benefit from carrying less weight.

The world record in the mile is three minutes and 43 seconds, set by Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco in 1999. With proper, training, could Bolt break five minutes? That’s more or less the debate tipping point in The New Yorker‘s exploration. But talk about burying the lede!

Bolt’s agent, Ricky Simms, didn’t weigh in on the five-minute question, but he did tell the magazine this: “Usain has never run a mile.”

Never? Like, never ever? Like, never ever ever? The guy practically lives on the track.

Then again, maybe there’s a lesson for the rest of us in this: Stick to what you’re good at.
