Manchester United insist Phil Jones is going nowhere

Manchester United have told interested clubs that Phil Jones will stay at Old Trafford.

Stoke, Watford and Hull City are among around a dozen clubs to have made enquiries for the 24-year-old who has been on the periphery of Jose Mourinho’s first team squads so far.

Jones is keen to play and is of a mind to see how much he figures in the earlier weeks of this season before discussing a potential move away. However, United boss Mourinho says Jones will have a role to play with United hoping to have a 60-plus game season. He wants Jones to stay at this stage and the England international will see how the season pans out before taking stock of his situation.

United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has moved on loan to Wolves.Wolves technical director Andrea Butti, who knows Mourinho from their time at Inter Milan, was at Old Trafford on Friday night for talks over the deal for Borthwick-Jackson.
