Government Budget For Upcoming Population And Housing Census Pegged At GHC521M

The upcoming population and Housing census held every ten years is estimated to cost the country GHC 521M

The amount includes enumerator salaries, logistics purchases, fieldwork costs, and participant training to improve the census’s effectiveness and performance.

According to the Head of Census Secretariat, the enumeration process necessitated logistics in order for field officers to reach out to all towns, cities, and hamlets in the Region’s districts.

He said that the GSS would need logistical support, such as vehicles and motorcycles, to reach out to people in hard-to-reach areas, and he urged the heads to make themselves available when they needed their help and services.

Concerning the benefits of the exercise, he said that, in addition to providing updated demographic, social, and economic data to support national development efforts and to monitor the implementation of global and continental development, the exercise will also assist at the district and local levels in assessing the people’s developmental needs.

Mr. Osei revealed that the 2021 Census will rely heavily on computer-assisted personal interviews and global positioning system (GPS) coordination for all systems and communities.
