Henley and Partners, which has been tracking the world’s most travel-friendly passports since 2006, compiled the index.
A Ghanaian passport grants access to 65 visa-free destinations, including Jamaica, Singapore, Guyana, Tanzania, and South Africa, as well as 162 visa-required destinations, including New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, and Finland, according to the most recent rankings and review.
In 2020, Ghana’s passport was ranked the 75th most powerful passport in the world.
Nigeria was ranked 95th out of 180 countries, with 46 visa-free and 181 visa-required destinations.
With its passport, Japan is in first place, with visa-free or visa-on-arrival travel to 193 destinations around the world.
Singapore is still in second position (with a ranking of 192), while South Korea is tied for third with Germany (with a score of 191).
The Henley Passport Index is based on data provided by the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) and covers 199 passports and 227 travel destinations. It is updated in real-time throughout the year, as and when visa policy changes come into effect.
