Illegal Miner Dies From Explosion In Eastern Region

A dynamite explosion at a mine in the Eastern Region has killed one illegal miner.

It all happened when the 45-year-old Marfo got trapped in the mining pit he was illegally operating in.

This was when a group of miners including him, had returned into the pit to check on a dynamite they had lit up failed to explode.

An eyewitness told the media that the dynamite subsequently exploded killing the illegal miner, Marfo, instantly.

“He died in the pit during the blast. His severe left leg was hanging in his Wellington boots when the police team rescued them,” an eyewitness revealed.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the same hospital for preservation.

Government through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, has so far held a consultative meeting with stakeholders in the mining value chain on methods of reducing illegal mining in the country.

To this end, the sector minister has ordered a suspension on the prospecting of forest lands for small to medium scale mining.
