Mali Suspended From Ecowas

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), on Sunday, May 30, 2021, convened an extraordinary Summit to enable Heads of State of ECOWAS countries to deliberate and take consequential decisions on the evolving political and security situation in Mali in Kempinski Hotel, Accra.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said the decision follows the community’s least tolerance for chaos, lawlessness and disregard for Laws that bind a Country.

The Minister added that regardless of the suspension, the Malian Military and its leaders will “work with ECOWAS to ensure that the transition is on track towards the end goal, which is to return the people of Mali to democratic rule.”
