IGP Was Tactless Over ‘Heaven’ Comments – Prof Gyampo

Social commentator, Prof. Ransford Yaw Gyampo has slammed the Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, for downplaying the spate of crime in the country in recent times.

The IGP has received huge flaks over his comments that there is crime all over the world including developed countries like USA and the UK.

“We are doing what we can to protect the people of Ghana. There is no society in the world where there is no crime. Even in the USA, UK and Sweden, where they, more or less have everything, they still have crime. The only place that doesn’t have crime is heaven and we are not in heaven,” he said during a visit to the family of the late Constable General, Emmanuel Osei, who was killed by armed robbers on Monday.

But reacting to the IGP’s comments, Prof Gyampo in a post on his official Facebook account criticized the leader of Ghana Police Service being tactless and insensitive to Ghanaians during these bad times. He also also demanded he retires immediately!

“The IGP must learn the tact of communication, particularly in times of sorrow. We need no soothsayer to tell us we are not in heaven. He must learn the art of public speaking and be politically smart in his utterances. Actually, he must retire,” he said.
