The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has banned and fined Asante Kotoko coach Mariano Barreto over misconduct in the league.
The Portuguese coach was fined GHc3,000 and suspended from the club’s next two official matches after pleading not guilty to misconducts in the league match against Legon Cities in Accra.
Barreto was punished for making derogatory remarks against the match officials in the Legon Cities game which Kotoko won 1-0.
“I think they (referees) have to try and improve also because they have to help the game. This is the second time one of my players will be going out due to injury and if they (referees) don’t protect players, then why are they coming. I like football and I am feeling ashamed when I look at these kind of things” Coach Barreto said during the Kotoko-Legon Cities post match press conference.
In a statement released Tuesday morning, the GFA said the coach was punished because his comments is likely to bring the game into disrepute.
The suspension means Mariano Barreto will not be on the bench for Kotoko’s last two Premier League games against Bechem United and Elmina Sharks.
