Information reaching StandupGh.com has it that Asante Kotoko coach, Mariano Barreto is set to leave the Kumasi-based club at the end of the season.
The Portuguese who joined the Porcupines in March, on a renewable one-and-a-half contract, has decided not to coach Kotoko into next season as he is not happy with the club.
Reports from Kotoko camp say the coach felt very disappointed with how the supporters and some former players of the club attacked him following their bitter 0-1 loss to rivals Hearts of Oak few weeks back.
In Kotoko’s game against Karela, the Portuguese threw shade at the club leadership and said he was on bench because of his players.
“I am too much disappointed, if not for my players, I wouldn’t have been at the bench. I came to this match for a reason and when I finish the league, I will tell Kotoko fans why. This is not the time to tell this, for now, my focus is to help these boys because nobody can imagine how worried they are. I came here to help them [players] to win because Kotoko fans are fantastic, not the fans who sit on Facebook to write rather those who come here [stadium] to help us, cry for us, singing for us and this is what motivates me everyday to come and work,” he said.
