Information reaching StandupGh.com has it that, First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Second Lady Samira Bawumia are set to reject Presidential spouse salary recommended by the presidential committee on emoluments for Article 71 office holders (January 2017 to December 2020).
According to Asaaseradio.com, the spouses of the president and veep have both decided to decline the offer and have communicated their decision to the presidency.
The remuneration for presidential spouses has generated huge discussions on radio and on social media, with many, including some supporters of the ruling party condemning the decision.
A source at the presidency also revealed to Asaase that the First and Second Lady of Ghana decided to reject the offer the public outcry over presidential spouse salary.
Among the many NPP folks who disagree with the remuneration of presidential spouses is the Bono regional chairman NPP, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as ‘Abronye’, who has filed a writ at the Supreme Court to reverse the payment of salaries approved for First and Second Ladies.
NDC’s Rockson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for South Dayi and Clement Apaak who is also the MP for Builsa South Constituency have all sued the Attorney General to reverse the payment of emoluments for First and Second Ladies.
