First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has officially rejected the offer for her to be paid a salary as recommended by the presidential committee on emoluments for Article 71 office holders (January 2017 to December 2020).
The First Lady in a statement released Monday has also “decided to refund all monies paid to her as allowances from the date of the President’s assumption of office, i.e., from January 2017 to date, amounting to GH¢899,097.84.”
According to Rebecca Akufo-Addo, she is disappointed by the “extremely negative opinions” about the presidential spouse salary that portrayed her as selfish and greedy.
She added that she has never in her four and half years as a First Lady requested to be paid any allowance.
She emphasized that she was not the first to be paid allowances as they were available to previous First Ladies in the fourth republic.
