President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) George Akuffo Dampare as the next Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Dampare takes over from James Oppong-Boanuh who has grown increasingly unpopular.
The president announced the not-so-surprising appointment in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
At the age of 51, Dampare is the youngest acting IGP to be appointed in the Fourth Republic and the eighth youngest since Ghana gained independence.
A father-of-six, Dampare joined the Ghana Police Service as a Constable in December, 1990 at age 20.
The president has also name Deputy Director General of Prison Service, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir as acting Director General of Police Service.
