Ghanaian Triple Jumper Nadia Eke Retires From Athletics

Ghanaian triple jumper, Nadia Eke has retired from athletics at the age of 28.

She announced the shocking decision to quit the sports hours after she got eliminated from the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

“Somewhere on the journey, I lost my way, for a while… Truth be told, the last 3 years as an athlete has been a mental struggle daily. All the way until 3 weeks ago, I questioned why I was granted this gift to be here when I felt I didn’t deserve it,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Tonight I was set free—I was reminded of my WHY. This space, this place needed my light to shine bright. I’m overwhelmed by the amount of lives I have been able to touch in such a short time.(I may not respond but I read all your messages.) Thank you all so much for being part of the journey and thanks to @athleticsghana for having faith in me these past 7 years.

“Incredibly grateful for the end of this chapter… No one should ask me to come for any competition ?.”

Nadia, who was Ghana’s lone jumper at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, was eliminated from the games earlier today after failing three attempts in the Triple Jump.

The Columbia University graduate failed to record a jump in three attempts after crossing the red board line. All jumps by the African Champion were ruled ‘no jump’ and illegal by the officials.

She becomes the 5th Ghanaian athlete to be eliminated from the games after swimmers Abeiku Jackson and Unilez Takyi, judoka Kwadjo Anani and boxer Shakul Samed.
