President Nana Akufo-Addo has congratulated Ghanaian boxer Samuel Takyi for winning bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.
The 20-year-old won bronze after beating Colombia’s Ceibar David Segura on Saturday to reach the semi-finals where he unfortunately lost to America’s Duke Ragan.
The medal is Ghana’s first since the men’s football team won bronze at the 1992 Games in Barcelona.
President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday afternoon took his Facebook page to congratulate the young athlete for making Ghana proud.
He wrote: “Big congratulations to Samuel Takyi from all of us at home, for hoisting high the flag of Ghana at the Tokyo Olympics, and for winning a bronze medal, Ghana’s first Olympic medal in 29 years. Well done,”
