Nana Dwamena, popularly known in the entertainment industry as Kidi, has spoken out about why he lost to Gospel singer Diana Hamilton at the 22nd edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).
According to Kidi, after winning three awards, he felt too proud on the night of the awards, which may have contributed to his loss of the night’s penultimate award, Artiste of the Year.
Recall that Kidi was mocked on social media after announcing on the night of the VGMAs that he would return to earn the ultimate prize after giving his speech after winning his third award. His hopes of winning the prize were dashed, and he rushed out of the arena, frustrated and angry.
Tony Best of Akoma FM’s Entertainment 360 spoke with him recently. When you get a lot of nominations, it’s natural to desire to win a lot of prizes, according to Kidi.
He explained, “When I accepted the first award, I didn’t say much, and when I accepted the second, I didn’t say much either, but when I accepted the third award, it boosted my confidence, and at that point, I felt I was so close to winning the Artiste of the Year, that I said, ‘I will be back.’”
“However, I had the impression that God was saying to me,’ my guy, you’re becoming too proud for my liking.’ The four you’ve been given are fine; take them home with you.”
