Since Daniel Craig announced that he will leave the espionage franchise after the fifth film, which was set to be released on September 30, speculation has been wild.
A number of names have been put forth by fans and the actors themselves as who would be the best fit to take over from Daniel Craig with names like Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, James Norton and the netflix star Rege-Jean Page making the rounds
Rege-Jean Page, the hero of Netflix Inc.’s “Bridgerton,” is now the betting favorite to be the next James Bond, which would make him the franchise’s first Black protagonist.
Page, 31, is 5-2 to feature in the 26th Bond film, according to London-based betting site William Hill, ahead of other British actors Tom Hardy, 44, and James Norton, 36, who are all 3-1. Idris Elba, a much-talked-about actor of color, is at 8-1.
After appearing as the Duke of Hastings in Netflix’s 2020 period drama “Bridgerton,” Page rose to stardom. The actor has other huge projects in the pipeline and will not be returning for the show’s second season. Page will feature in a Netflix heist film and will play the lead in ViacomCBS Inc.’s Paramount Pictures version of “The Saint.” The original version starred Roger Moore, who went on to portray James Bond.
In “No Time to Die,” the current Bond, Daniel Craig, 53, makes his fifth and last appearance as the world’s most renowned spy. The picture, which was released in the United Kingdom this week, will be released in the United States on October 8th.
The Bond franchise’s producer, Eon Productions Ltd., did not immediately reply to a request for comment. The Federal Trade Commission is reviewing Amazon.com Inc.’s agreed acquisition of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which distributes 007 films in the United States.
