We Don’t Need Coup To Change Someone – Akuffo Addo Advices Ghanaians

The chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS and president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has said that Africa has come a long way in it’s independence to the point where “we don’t nee a coup to change someone”

There is a saying in Akan that when you see the beard of your friend on fire, you get a bucket of water by your side, the coup in Guinea which has seen it’s sitting president Alpha Conde forcefully removed from power has had other Africa leaders looking behind their backs

And it appears Akuffo Addo, President of Ghana whose country has enjoyed relative peace and transition of power is weary of the wheel of change which Guinea’s successful coup could start on the African continent

During an address, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo expressed his weary at the strain such actions could have on Africa’s fragile democracy and had this to say as President of Ghana and Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS); “Using the ballot box has contributed to the stability of our country. People believe that if a leader is not doing well, they can vote against that leader in four years time. We don’t need a coup to change someone.”

This speech was Akuffo Addo touting the democracy of Ghana and clearly an admonishment to his people that coup is not needed to change someone in power who is not performing but rather the ballot box must be used to make such a change
