Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale has declared his wish to be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Shatta, who appeared before the Accra Circuit Court and was remanded one week in custody, stated publicly that he wants to be in prison forever.
The Dancehall star made the controversial statement while being escorted to the police vehicle to be sent to prison custody to star his one week remand sentence.
“Ghana people I wanna sleep in prison for life,” he said while being cheered by hundreds of fans who came to the court to support him.
The 37-year-old was arrested Tuesday night following posts made by his PRO Nana Dope that he had been shot by unknown gun men at East Legon in Accra. Nana Dope also added that the musician was in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital in Accra.
But Shatta in a Facebook post later confirmed that the attack was a hoax, blaming the police for not arresting a prophet who prophesied about him being shot.
Many, including top entertainment analysts like Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo has slammed the musician for the publicity stunt, saying he went too far.
“PR stunts should not offend the sensibility of the consumers because you’re selling a product, you’re using the PR stunt to generate some attention because if the consumer is offended, they will not patronise the product.
“It must not be criminal because when you wade into those criminal waters, you’re going against a certain law as you do that, you may be found wanting; and for me, I think this PR stunt failed because it offended a lot of people, and placed a lot of people in fear and panic,” Arnold said in an interview on Joy Prime‘s Showbiz Now, on Wednesday.
