Shatta Wale Has Not Been Granted Bail – Police

Ghana Police has quashed reports circulating that Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale has been granted bail.

The Dancehall star was arrested on Tuesday night to assist with investigations after his PRO alleged that he was shot by unknown gun men.

But on Wednesday, it was widely reported by some blogs that the musician has been granted bail after a video of the Kakai singer hanging out with his usual crew was uploaded online by his close friend and fellow musician Ara-B.

However, speaking on The Pulse on the JoyNews channel, the Acting Public Affairs Director of Police, DSP Alexander Obeng, stated that Shatta Wale is still custody with his two friends who were also arrested.

“The investigators are ensuring that the right procedures are followed so that nobody’s right is violated,” he said on Wednesday, October 20.

DSP Obeng explained that they are expected to be charged and processed for court in line with the security service’s modalities.

He also revealed evidence available to them suggests that the musician’s charges may be pivoted around “publication of false news, usurpation of a public officer…and attempts to cause fear and panic.”

According to reports, Shatta Wale is likely to be remanded for at least two weeks in prison.

Prosecutors will insist on his remand also because they believe he may tamper with their investigations when he is released on bail along with two of the other suspects as the police may be relying on Electronic Evidence of Communications among the actors of the conspiracy to prove their case.
