A Bachelor’s Degree Will Soon Be The Minimum Requirement To Get A Nursing Job – Health Minister

The rising rate of unemployment continues to be a threat to National security. With limited number of jobs and the many graduates churned out each year the Government of the day is saying that it will increase the employment requirements for getting a nursing job in the country

The Ministry of Health said that health training institutes at all levels will soon be upgraded to provide 4-year undergraduate degree programs to meet the changing health care needs of the country.

According to Hannah Aqua Operabia Aqua, Rector of the College of Nursing and Midwifery, the idea is to phase out diploma and certificate holders and see to it that the bachelor’s degree is the minimum qualification for practicing nurses and midwives.

She was speaking on behalf of Health Minister Kwaku Agaman-Manu at the 14th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the COHHETI Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions in Koforidua, Eastern Province.

To achieve this success, there must be broad-based stakeholder consultation and engagement to develop a policy that makes all health training a fully tertiary institution, ”she explained.
