Liverpool legend and manager of Scottish club Rangers, Steven Gerard is said to be the first choice of Aston Villa to fill their vacant manager role after the sacking of Dean Smith though they are yet to make a formal approach.
The club is using the international break to re-evaluate their options to make the right choice in terms of a manager recruitment but are fairly confident they will reach the best decision in the clubs interest and will have a competent and new face in the dugout for their next home game against Brighton on November 20.
Belgium and former everton manager, Roberto Martinez is another managerial name being seriously considered by the hierarchy of Aston Villa along with the Liverpool legend though the latter is said to be in pole position for the job
Gerard’s impressive works in the Scottish premier league has not gone unnoticed after helping to revitalize Rangers and then lead them to wrestle the Scottish title from the firm grip of Celtic, who have dominated the league for over a decade
It is said he has an admirer in the Villa Chief Executive, Christian Purslow, who has known the former player and now manager from his days as Liverpool managing director.
It is no doubt Steven Gerard nurtures the dream of one day managing Liverpool but the chance of having an audition in the premier league to prove is capabilities as a top manager will no doubt not be lost to him
Aston Villa have their work cut out for them however as Rangers will not let go of their managerial messiah so easily and will no doubt put up a strong fight to keep Steven Gerard around to at least see out the season
