Rio Ferdinand has called on former club, Manchester United to renew their interest in signing Dortmund and English international midfielder, Jude Bellingham.
The pursued the midfielder in the summer transfer window past, and even enlisted the help of legendary club manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, all in a bid to turn the head of the midfield prodigy towards Old Trafford. But all their efforts proved futile as the young man snubbed them for German club, Dortmund, where he now plies his trade.
He has gone on to cement his name in the starting 11 of the German club and has even earned himself a few call ups to the National team as he continues to develop into a world class midfielder.
And former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand believes his former club should renew their interest in signing the young English man, insisting the time is now to start putting in measures in place to bring him to Old Trafford.
Asked in an interview where Bellingham would fit in, in the United midfield, the former defender said; “Any. He’s that good. Serious.”
He continued: “In the England youth teams there are times when he’s played as the holding midfielder. Times he’s played as the 8 and been box-to-box.
“And also times when he’s been told he can join the attacks more. He has the capabilities and capacity to play all of the roles, he’s that good.
“I think for him, I see him as being someone who can do it all. There aren’t many midfielders in the game now that can attack and defend – affect the game at both ends.
“When you are one of the super clubs, there are talents out there that make you think if we have the capacity and financial muscle, then he’s one you don’t want to miss.”
Bellingham only recently agreed an extension on his Dortmund contract which ties him to the club until 2025.
