Rolls Royce Builds World’s Fastest Electric Plane

Most of us know Rolls Royce as a car making company, very expensive car making company, it would there come as a surprise to many to hear that Rolls Royce has and electric plane and the biggest shock would be that they are so advanced in the plane making business that they are already claiming to have created the world’s fastest electric plane.

Well that is exactly the reality on the ground as Rolls Royce has got many in the aviation industry talking with the making of their new and expensive toy. The car making company’s electric plane has broken all existing top speeds and has set its own by quiet a comfortable margin.

The ‘spirit of innovation’ electric plane reached a maximum speed of 387.4mph during a test flight, a staggering 132mph faster than the existing record. The electric plane went on to achieve 330mph over 15 kilometres (9.3miles), which is 182mph faster than the previous record. It also broke the fastest time to ascend to 3,000 meters by 60 seconds with a new record time of 202 seconds

Rolls Royce record breaking data has been submitted to the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, the body which handles world aeronautic records for confirmation.

Warren East, CEO of Rolls-Royce, said: ‘Following the world’s focus on the need for action at COP26, this is another milestone that will help make “jet zero” a reality and supports our ambitions to deliver the technology breakthroughs society needs to decarbonise transport across air, land and sea.’
