Magdalena Andersson made it into the Swedish history books after being the first ever female to be voted Prime Minister of the prosperous European nation and she went a step further and created even more history by resigning from the post she was voted into just hours ago.
Sweden is a European country that has been lauded by its European peers as one of Europe’s most progressive countries when it comes to their dealings with gender relations and so Magdalena Andersson’s appointment was to be yet another milestone chalked by the Swedish people and now her resignation has blighted historic milestone.
Reason for her resignation is said to be the refusal of the Government’s own budget in favour of a budget presented by the opposition. The votes were 154-143 in favour of the budget proposal presented by the opposition.
Andersson, leader of the Social Democratic Party decided to step down after the turn of events seven hours after making history as the first female prime minister of Sweden. ”For me, it is about respect, but I also do not want to lead a government where there may be grounds to question its legitimacy,” Andersson told a news conference.
