Liverpool manager has been accused of showing little respect for Africa and the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) after referring to the tournament as a ‘little tournament’, and a journalist who took offence at the Liverpool manager’s comments demanded an apology.
It is quiet strange that such comments would come from Jurgen Klopp as his Liverpool team possesses two of Africa’s very best in Mohammed Salah who plays for Egypt and Sadio Mane who plays for Senegal.
It is however understandable that he would make such comments and the comments were mostly probably out of frustration for having to lose his two best attacking players to the AFCON tournament at a time when they would be needed most to charge forward in the fight for the premier league title.
The sports journalist was not understandable as me and demanded that the Liverpool manager apologize for his disrespect for African football and asked the manager if he would call a European competition ‘little’
Jurgen Klopp however insisted that his comments was misunderstood and taken out of context, adding that he would never say anything to disrespect Africa and it’s people. He however refused to apologize as apologizing would mean accepting that he did something wrong which he believes he has not
