Madina MP Francis-Xavier Sosu A Wanted Man As Court Issues Order For His Arrest

Ghanaian lawmaker and member of parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu is a wanted man as the Kaneshie District Court has issued a bend warrant for his arrest. The court’s order follows the lawmaker’s failure to appear before the court despite being summoned for three consecutive times.

Prosecutor, ASP Sylvester Asare explained that it is within the jurisdiction of the court to issue an arrest for the member of parliament considering the seriousness of the case at hand.

The Ghana Police Service charged Francis-Xavier Sosu after he led a demonstration against bad roads on October 25, 2021 in his constituency. He was accused and to stand trial for unlawfully blockading a road and causing damage to public property in the demonstration against poor roads in his constituency

The efforts of the police to have him arrested and have him stand trial all proved futile, especially when he had the backing of the speaker of parliament, who for the second time said the lawmaker was unable to attend court as he was executing his parliamentary duties abroad.

“I have been directed by the Rt. Hon. Speaker to bring to the attention of the court that the Hon. Member is attending at the proceedings of the 3rd meeting of the First session of the 8th parliament, which commenced on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, and is currently representing parliament and the country in a conference in the United States of America,” the speaker told the court in a letter.
