Barbados has crowned Rihanna a national hero at its republican ceremony celebration where it swore in President Dame Sandra Mason as its president and cut ties with the British Monarch thereby ending Queen Elizabeth’s reign as head of state of the Caribbean Island.
The country’s prime minister, Mia Mottley, said, “On behalf of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we therefore present to you, the designee, for national hero of Barbados, ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty may you continue to shine like a diamond.”
“May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honour to your nation by your works, by your actions,” Mottley told Rihanna, making reference to her 2012 chart-topping single Diamonds.
The music star is a house hold name and boast a net worth of an estimate of $1.7 billion, making her the first female musician billionaire and richest woman musician in the world. Forbes magazine however noted that music is not her primary source of wealth.
Rihanna, born Robyn Fenty is a Barbados born singer and $1.4 billion of her net worth is derived from her 50% stake in Fenty Beauty cosmetics line, according to reports from forbes magazine.
Rihanna was named the world’s richest female musician in 2019 with an estimated fortune of $900 million, overtaking Madonna and Beyonce, who previously topped the list.
