Lawyer for Akuapem Poloo, whose appeal on her 90 days jail term was dismissed earlier today by an Accra High Court, Andrew Vortia, has labeled as harsh the verdict of the Accra High Court presided over by Justice Ruby Aryeetey to dismiss his clients appeal to challenge her 90 days custodial sentence.
Speaking after the court hearing earlier today, Andrew Vortia his worry is for that Akuapem Poloo’s son, who he says will have to spend so much time away from his mother. He said it was unfair for the child and unfair for the mother to have to go through such an experience. Labeling the court harsh and insensitive in its verdict.
He disclosed that while the defendant and prosecutors were making their submissions in court earlier, the prosecution began to sympathize with the situation of his client and her son as they realised it would be unfair to deny a son the warmth of his mother and that it would be better that their appeal was accepted. However the judge of the day, Justice Ruby Aryeetey was unrelenting and uncompromising in her stance and had a different view contrary to the defendant and prosecutors.
Lawyer Andrew Vortia concluded with the revelation that he and his client will not push on with another appeal and said that Akuapem Poloo will continue with her 90-days jail term from where she left off.
