Asantehene Accuses Some Members Of Ghana Police Of Engaging In Criminal Activities

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has noted that some members of the Ghana Police Force, though very few, use their weapons and ammunition to perpetuate crime and has therefore tasked the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to do an internal check of the police force to weed out the bad ones in the force in order to instill confidence in the general public.

He drove home further that some members of the police force are conniving with criminals and so doing cover up the activities of these criminals. The Asantehene made these revelation to the IGP who paid a courtesy call on the King of the Asante kingdom, as part of his tour of the Ashanti Region.

“While there are very good police officers, there are few others who indulge in criminal activities. The bad ones have brought the name of the police service into disrepute. They use the ammunition given to them to engage in criminal activities. Ensure that this is addressed,” the Asantehene said.

The IGP taking in the charge from the Asantehene, assured all present and all Ghanaians that him together with his outfit will give their utmost best to continue to ensure the safety of Ghanaian lives and property

“With God on our side, we want to ensure that whoever succeeds this administration will have a better police service to work with. We want it to be better because if the next administration has a better understanding of the job, whatever we have started will be continued by them.”

“We are thus praying to God to help us do better than our predecessors such that the police can redeem its image,” Dr. Damapare said.
