Germany is elected a new Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, to take over from Angela Merkel, who has served as Chancellor of the great nation for over 16 years. Angela Merkel’s term in office has officially been declared over but she and the other ministers will continue to rule on a provisional basis until the new Government takes over office.
Angela Merkel is arguably one of the greatest Chancellors Germany has ever had and her time in office brought about great success and economic growth and stability for the European Nation and that fact is not lost to parliament as she was seen off parliament with a rapturous applause.
It is a new dawn however and it is time for the baton to be exchanged without dwelling too much on the past but look forward to the future. Angela Merkel’s successor, Olaf Scholz was elected Chancellor with 395 out of the 736 delegates voting ‘yes’. He needed only 369 votes however to be Chancellor.
Olaf Scholz election as Chancellor brings to an end Angela Merkel’s 16 years of being Chancellor after serving four consecutive terms in office.
