Court Withdraws Bench Warrant Order For The Arrest Of Jomoro MP

The Sekondi High court has backtracked on its decision to issue a bench warrant order for the arrest of member of parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who is also the mother of popular Ghanaian songstress Fantana.

The rescinded its decision as the lawmaker affiliated to the National Democratic Congress made an appearance in court today as that was the basis on which a bench warrant was issued for her immediate arrest.

The legal counsel for Dorcas Affo-Toffey, Edudzi Cudjoe Tamakloe speaking to Accra based Citi FM on the decision labeled the court’s decision to issue a bench warrant for the lawmakers arrest as needless and uncalled for.

“We moved the court prayerfully to rescind the warrant of arrest. The court graciously acceded to our prayer and the warrant stands rescinded…. In the wisdom of the court, there was no basis to have the warrant still subsisting, and we are grateful to the court,“ he said.

“For the substantive application to be moved on the contempt case, we have agreed to come back on February 16, 2022,” he added.

The member of parliament for Jomoro is before the court to proof that she does not bare dual citizenship as she has been said she possesses citizenship in both Ivory Coast and Ghana and the laws of Ghana does not accept that a person with dual citizenship be a member of parliament.
