Ghanaian actor and movie maker, Eddie Nartey has sent message to stakeholders of the Ghana movie industry that the industry needs more than just a name change adding that its problem is more investment and not rebranding.
According to reports, stakeholders of the Ghana movie industry recently held a meeting to arrive at a universal name that the industry should be identified with just like the Nigerian movie industry is called Bollywood, Indian movie industry is called Bollywood and the American movie industry is called Hollywood, amongst others.
Over the years, the Ghanaian movie industry has been identified by two names, Ghallywood or in some cases Kumawood.
Reacting to the news of a name change, Eddie Nartey sent a shot a the stakeholders that there are more serious problems facing the industry that needs attention and not a name change which will not benefit anyone in the industry and if care is not taken will only send the industry a few years back unless the rebranding is accompanied with an aggressive marketing strategy.
“Let’s not turn a blind eye to the real problems of filmmakers in Ghana. Changing the industry name a 100 times will not benefit any filmmaker in anyway. I have a question, is the Executive secretary Happy Ghana films now sounds exactly as her film festival? I’m disappointed.”
