Aston Villa and Philipe Coutinho have gone into an agreement for the player to join the English club on a season long loan deal with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
The Brazilian will reunite with former teammate at Liverpool, Steven Gerard, who will now be his manager at Aston Villa.
“I don’t think you get a nickname of ‘The Magician’ if you’re not a special footballer,” Gerrard told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.
“I’ve got nothing but positive things to say about the player. He’s a friend of mine, so if I’m asked the questions I can speak for as long as you want.”
Philipe Coutinho left Anfield to join Spanish giants FC Barcelona but the move has not gone the way the winger would have wanted as he has struggled for game time and his performance haven’t been as expected.
The Brazilian’s departure will come as welcomed news to the Catalans as it will free up some pressure on their wage bill, an issue they have been having issues as the club battles to emerge from its financial crisis.
