This will come as good news to the participants of the African Cup of Nation (AFCON) as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed that the winner of this year’s African Cup of Nations will be walking home with €4.5m, which is an increase from the €3.9m which was the previous winning package.
The increase in the winning package was announced by the Confederation of African Football ahead of the opening match of the tournament set to come off tomorrow, January 9, 2022, between host nation Cameroon and Burkina Faso.
Making an appearance in the final will attract a prize package of €2.64m for each country, while the third placed team will walk away with €2.2m
Semi-finalists and quater-finalists are not left out of the prize packages as they will both teams appearing in both sets of finals will get €2.2m and €703,000 respectively.
All 24 countries participating in the tournament will each get €534,000 for participating in the African Cup of Nations.
The tournament kicks off tomorrow and curtains will be drawn on it on February 6 and will showcase Africa’s very best players as they compete in and amongst themselves to take Africa’s most coveted tournament home.
