Seven years after placing a ban on bird app, twitter, Nigeria has finally lifted it’s ban on the social media app.
Buhari’s government placed a ban on twitter in the country after the social media app deleted a post the President, Muhammadu Buhari about clamping down on regional secessionists.
Nigerian authorities accused the bird app for supporting secessionists.
But the Government has come out to reveal its decision to reverse its ban on twitter citing an agreement reached by the two parties which includes social media app opening a local office in the country.
Even with the ban imposed in country, some Nigerians have found a way to work around it, employing the use of virtual private networks (VPNs) to circumvent the ban.
The lifting of the ban will now ensure that millions of people in Africa’s most populated nation get to use the social media app.
The move to ban twitter in the country by the Nigeria government attracted criticism from international bodies as it bordered on human rights
Twitter is however yet to comment of Nigeria lifting the ban on their app.
