I Was Not Given A Dime – Sonnie Badu Debunks $50,000 Nathional Cathedral Perfomance Fee

Ghanaian Gospel musician Sonnie Badu has refuted claims that he was paid for his performance during a fundraiser for the National Cathedral. The Ghanaian musican, who is currently based in the US, denied categorically that, he never took any money for his short performance during the 2019 fundraising ceremony in the US. Sonnie Badu refuted claims of him taking $50,000 for his performance. He, however, revealed that the event’s organisation was even poor, and he and his band did not have any chairs to sit on. The Gospel musician made the revelation in a tweet to address the misinformation circulating. Wow, thanks for alerting me. “I was not given a dime… not even a seat for my team and me,” Sonnie Badu wrote on Twitter.

Sonnie Badu’s revelation ignited conversations on social media, with many people asking the Government and the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral to explain what happened. Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, waded into the conversation on Twitter and demand answers from the organisers of the fundraiser. The controversial MP and elder of the Perez Chapel wrote on his Twitter page, “They to have paid SONNIE BADU $50,000 for a song ministration at a launch in the US. Now he has come out to say he was not given a dime, and not even a seat was offered to him and his team. So who took the $50,000? Surely the Trustees do NOT know about this! Again, they claimed to have paid 30,000 Ghana Cedis to each of the Gospel artists who ministered at the launch here in Accra. Can those artistes also confirm if they received these monies?”

The National Cathedral has become a national canker refusing to die a natural death. The Cathedral has been hit with several scandals since it was revealed that the Government had spent more than GHC200 million on its construction. Many people in the country have asked the Government to render an account of how much it has spent on the project so far and what the total cost of the project would be.
