Ghanaian actress Kisa Gbekle has stated that there’s no money in the Ghana movie industry. She revealed that contrary to what many people think about the industry, their art didn’t pay much. Kisa spoke in an interview with Abeiku Santana on the ‘Atuu’ show when she made the revelation. Kisa Gbekle revealed that actors and actresses within the Ghanaian movie industry earn little pennies from the business.
She explained that many were acting for the swag and fame but not for money, as the industry had no money. She revealed that she was making all her money from her football academy and not acting as many presumed. She stated that others were also into acting for as a passion, and others used it as a platform to achieve other things. She claimed many actors and actresses in the country are making money off their endorsements and commercial deals with corporate Ghana. Kisa explained that her absence from the movie scenes resulted from her pregnancy, but she was working her way back.
Kisa’s revelation has reignited discussions over how players in the industry flaunt expensive things despite the complaints. Many in the industry have bemoaned the lack of investment and how difficult it is to generate revenue from movies. In 2017, popular actress Yvonne Nelson also admitted to the challenge in the industry. “Acting doesn’t really pay. Back then, I had to do a bunch of movies before I could make some substantial money. It is the other things we do, like our personal productions and signing with companies as brand ambassadors that pays. Do you think I can drive a Mercedes Benz with this chicken change fees that we get paid for acting,” she asked.
